Definition - What does SIE Exam mean?
The SIE exam is also known as the Securities Industry essentials Exam . The SIE exam is designed to assess the competency and understanding of general securities industry concepts and regulations. The SIE is an entry-level exam and in 2016 will be the pre requisite to taking many other FINRA exams such as the series 6, series 7 and series 99 exams .The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) will administer the SIE exam in addition to the series 6, 7 & 99. The series 6, 7 and 99 exams will be considered to be top off exams and must be passed in addition to the SIE exam for a person to become fully registered to function as an agent of a broker dealer.

Candidates wishing to sit for the SIE exam will not need to be sponsored by a FINRA member to take the SIE exam.
