Definition - What does Arizona Real Estate License mean?

The Arizona Department of Real Estate (ADRE) manages the issuance of real estate licenses to individuals in Arizona.

Individuals who wish to attain an Arizona real estate salesperson license must meet the following requirements:
  • U.S. resident
  • 18 years of age
  • Pre-licensing 90-hour education
  • Pass a background check including submittal of a fingerprint clearance card
  • Hire in as a salesperson online with the state
  • Complete a contract writing course
  • Pass the Arizona real estate exam
Additional requirements to become a broker are:
  • 3 years full time experience as a salesperson within the past 5 years
  • Pass the broker level of the exam
The CDRE places special emphasis on the honesty and general morality of real estate applicants. Therefore a clean past is integral to obtaining this license. A salesperson license costs $60 initially. A Broker license costs $145.

Pearson Vue administers the exam, which costs $75 or $125 dependent on whether an individual seeks a salesperson or broker license. The license examination for salesperson consists of 100 questions that must be answered within 150 minutes. Of these questions, 10 are pretest questions. Pretest questions do not count toward a candidate’s final score. However, pretest questions cannot be differentiated from regular questions and thus should be answered. The broker examination consists of 110 questions that must be answered within 165 minutes. In addition, both licenses must also take a national exam consisting of 85 questions (5 pretest) within 150 minutes. Due to multiple versions of all exams, a passing score will be different depending on which version an individual is given.
